Tell your doctor if you are allergic to enalapril; any of the active or inactive ingredients in enalapril formulations.
Give your doctor and pharmacist a complete list of your medications, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, supplements, and herbal products. This can help avoid possible drug interactions.
Give your doctor a complete medical history. Enalapril may not be right for people with certain medical conditions such as heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes, lupus, scleroderma, collagen vascular disease, and angioedema.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, could be pregnant, plan to get pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
Enalapril can cause low blood pressure and make you lightheaded and dizzy, especially when arising from a sitting or lying position. Get up slowly to lower your risk of falls.
Do not take potassium salt substitutes while on enalapril without talking to your doctor. This can lead to electrolyte imbalance and serious health complications.
Drink enough fluids during enalapril therapy. Diarrhea, vomiting, sweating too much, and not drinking enough fluids can lead to dehydration, which can cause low blood pressure, dizziness, and lightheadedness.
Call your doctor if you develop urinary problems such as little or no urination while on this medicine. This could be a sign of renal impairment or acute renal failure.
Tell your doctor if you become pregnant while on enalapril.
USES
Enalapril Maleate Oral belongs to a group of drugs called angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors.
It is used to treat:
· high blood pressure (hypertension)
· heart failure (weakening of heart function). It can lower the need to go to hospital and can help some patients live longer
· To prevent the signs of heart failure. The signs include: shortness of breath, tiredness after light physical activity such as walking, or swelling of the ankles and feet. This medicine works by widening your blood vessels. This lowers your blood pressure. The medicine usually starts to work within an hour, and the effect lasts for at least 24 hours. Some people will require several weeks of treatment until the best effect on your blood pressure is seen.
HOW TO USE
Enalapril is available as a 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 10 mg, and 20 mg tablet and a 1 mg/mL oral solution.
The initial dose of enalapril to treat high blood pressure is 5 mg once a day. Your doctor may increase the dose every few weeks based on your response. The typical dosage range is 10 mg to 40 mg of enalapril per day.
The initial dose of enalapril to treat congestive heart failure is 2.5 mg twice a day. The dose may be increased to 10 mg to 20 mg twice a day.
Possible side effects of enalapril are listed below. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects if they are severe or if they do not go away in a few days.

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
· ■ Do not use this medicine after the expiry date (month, year) which is state on the label after “EXP”.The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
· Store in a refrigerator 36-degrees F to 46-degrees F (2-degrees C to 8-degrees C).
· Store in the original bottle in order to protect from light.
· Do not use the medicine 30 days after it is first opened. After 30 days, take it back to the pharmacy.
· Do not use this medicine is you notice anything wrong with the medicine. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
· Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.
